Beard Guide: How to Get Rid of Ingrown Hairs

If you have facial hair, the good news (for men, anyway) is that beards aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. However, just because you have a beard, it doesn’t mean that there isn’t any upkeep involved anymore. If you are the type of man who is prone to getting nasty ingrown hairs on your neck or around your chin, then you know just how annoying it can be to clean up your neck and beard a few times a week. Luckily, we at Dermatology Institute & Skin Care Center have created a brief beard guide to help you combat those ingrown once and for all. Read on to learn more.

Use Shaving Cream
If you are the type of manly man that thinks that you don’t need shaving cream to shave your face, you are only contributing to the ingrown hairs. By adding shaving cream or lotion to your face before you shave, you are creating a strong barrier between your skin and the razor— which can help alleviate ingrown hairs, razor burn, and razor bumps in the process.

Exfoliate
To help get rid of your ingrown hairs, try using an exfoliating scrub. The scrub will work to get rid of the skin around your ingrown hairs that is causing them to get trapped. When using an exfoliator like a facial scrub, try applying it to your neck and face in a circular motion while focusing on each ingrown hair. If your skin starts to feel irritated, rinse off the exfoliant with clean, warm water and give your skin a break for a few days— you don’t want to exacerbate it.

Try Laser
If you are sick of ingrown hairs and want to find a permanent solution to get rid of them, consider getting laser hair removal from our Dermatology Institute & Skin Care Center office. By targeting each hair follicle, laser hair removal permanently gets rid of unwanted hair and unwanted ingrown hairs in the process. Depending on the color of your beard and how thick it is, you may have to undergo multiple treatment sessions.

Having a beard is a right of passage as a man, but it can be a literal pain in the neck if you have ingrown hairs. To learn more about how you can get rid of these hairs or to schedule an appointment, contact Dermatology Institute & Skin Care Center today!
