3 Things to Know About Warts

Nobody wants to shake hands with someone with a handful of warts— even if they are five years old. Even though warts are most common among young children, adults are still susceptible to getting them all across their body— all the way from their hands to their feet. To help you better understand this condition, let’s take a closer look at three things about warts.

They Are Caused By a Virus
One thing that many people are unaware of is that warts are caused by the papillomavirus. And although most people become immune to this virus by the time they reach adulthood, there are still some adults who still get them.

They Can Be Removed
The good thing about warts is that no matter where they are or how old you are, they can be removed. Here at Dermatology Institute & Skin Care Center we specialize in wart removal and use a variety of treatments including cryotherapy, pulsed dye laser, laser resurfacing, and topical agents such as salicylic acid, Aldara®, and tape.

They Are Contagious
All types of warts— including those that are sexually transmitted— are extremely contagious. In kids, they spread like wildfire because they are always touching each other and not washing their hands. If you or your children have warts, one of the best thing you can do is avoid skin to skin contact with others.

If you or your children have warts, contact Dermatology Institute & Skin Care Center today, and we will get them taken care of. Although new warts can develop after treatment, with proper hygiene and consistent care, you shouldn’t have to worry too much. REady to schedule your appointment?
