Injectables Q & A

What is injectables?

Injectables are prescription products used to correct aesthetic concerns like:

  • Forehead lines and lines between the brows
  • Crow’s feet
  • Lines around the lips
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Thinning lips and lost volume in the cheeks
  • Dimpled chin
  • Under-eye wrinkles

Injectables are also effective on spider veins, the bluish, purple tangled veins that are visible on the surface of the skin.

You might also benefit from medical applications of injectables like Botox®, which is effective in reducing excessive sweating and migraine episodes.

How do injectables work?

Injectables contain different formulas that target specific aesthetic or medical concerns. The injectables offered at Dermatology Institute & Skin Care Center include:

Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators are a class of injectables that include Botox and Dysport®. These formulas contain a purified toxin that temporarily halts nerve impulses and muscle activity.

As a result, the lines and wrinkles that form when you smile, squint, or frown are less noticeable.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers contain substances that plump and hydrate your skin to fill in moderate lines and wrinkles, as well as areas of lost volume and small, depressed scars.

Dermatology Institute & Skin Care Center offers several formulations of fillers, including hyaluronic acid-based fillers like Juvederm®, Restylane®, and VERSA™.

The practice also administers Radiesse®, which uses calcium-based microspheres to provide immediate volume and lift to the skin.

Sclerotherapy

The injectable solution used for sclerotherapy irritates the lining of a spider vein so it swells shut and blocks the flow of blood. The vein closes up and disappears, and your blood redirects through healthier veins.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

PRP is a concentrated form of your own blood. A sample of your blood is spun down to concentrate the platelets, a component that has tremendous healing properties.

Injections of PRP accelerate healing, reform aging skin, and stimulate hair growth in the scalp.

How long do the effects of injectables last?

How long the effects of injectables last depends on the formula used, the area treated, and your personal metabolism.

The effects of neuromodulators like Botox last about 3-4 months. Dermal fillers can smooth wrinkles and plump up lost volume for 6-18 months.

Sclerotherapy is a permanent solution for unsightly spider veins. PRP helps your skin renew cells and look its best for up to a year.
