About Hair Loss Treatments

Our non-surgical hair loss treatments are designed to help support and stimulate the health of your scalp and hair follicles, all while slowing down current hair loss. These solutions range from laser hair treatments to topical serums, and each encourages thicker, healthier, and denser hair growth in its own unique way.

Our primary treatments include:

  • KeraFactor: KeraFactor is a topical scalp solution that uses bio-identical polypeptides and growth factors to block dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone responsible for hair loss.
  • KeraFlex Duo: KeraFlex Duo is a laser treatment that operates laser diodes at two different wavelengths to stimulate blood flow and target both superficial and underlying scalp tissues.
  • Platelet-Rich Plasma: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrated serum composed of plasma derived from your own blood. When administered to the scalp, this treatment can help aid with wound healing, encourage new growth, and nourish the scalp with beneficial proteins and growth factors.

Benefits

There are several benefits to restoring your hair with our non-surgical treatments, some of which include:

  • Slowing Hair Loss: Our hair loss treatments are designed to slow current symptoms of hair loss, allowing you to retain your existing hair.
  • Encouraging New Growth: Our hair loss treatments can help stimulate dormant follicles, prolong the growth phase of the hair cycle, and encourage visible improvements in areas experiencing thinning or shedding.
  • Deep Rejuvenation: Treatments, such as the KeraFlex Duo, can penetrate deeper into the scalp to support follicle health.
  • Improved Thickness and Density: The growth factors found in certain treatments, such as PRP, have been shown to promote cell proliferation and the growth of new blood cells, leading to improvements in hair thickness and density. (1)
  • Little to No Recovery Time: After your appointment, you can return to your routine without disruptions, thanks to our nonsurgical methods.
  • Boosted Confidence: Our hair loss treatments can help you restore your confidence and self-esteem, allowing you to feel more comfortable in your appearance and face each day with renewed self-assurance.

Candidates

Candidates for our hair loss treatments include anyone experiencing thinning or shedding hair. Patients with female or male pattern baldness, as well as those experiencing sudden hair loss after a stressful event, may also be eligible.

Anyone interested in our hair loss treatments should be in good general health and hold realistic expectations regarding what these treatments can achieve. Certain treatments or medications are not recommended for patients under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding women, as well as those with certain scalp conditions. If you do not qualify for our hair loss treatments, we will find you a suitable alternative during your consultation.

Personal Consultation

Because everyone’s scalp concerns are different, we ask that you attend a personal consultation before starting your treatment. During this consultation, your specialist will ask about your medical history, concerns, and treatment goals. They will also evaluate the severity of your hair loss, as well as the condition and health of your scalp.

Your specialist will use this information to recommend the most appropriate treatment for your circumstances, and they may combine it with other treatments for enhanced results. Throughout the consultation, they will also answer any questions you may have.

If you are ready to schedule this consultation and get started, please contact us online or call either of our offices at (310) 829-4104.

Procedure

At the Dermatology Institute & Skin Care Center, we offer KeraFactor, KeraFlex Duo, and platelet-rich plasma as our primary hair loss treatments. During your consultation, your specialist will evaluate your medical history and scalp to determine which treatment, or combination of treatments, is right for you.

KeraFactor

KeraFactor is a topical growth serum that utilizes bio-identical polypeptides and nanoliposome-covered growth factors to help slow hair loss and encourage new growth. This treatment is designed to block DHT, enhance cell regeneration, promote healing, as well as enhance cellular activity and turnover. (2) KeraFactor may be applied as a standalone treatment or combined with another hair restoration to enhance its results. Those who receive KeraFactor will also take home a scalp-stimulating shampoo and conditioner that is infused with a unique blend of conditioners and growth factors that can help improve circulation.

KeraFlex Duo

The KeraFlex Duo is another laser hair restoration treatment that emits two different wavelengths to target both the superficial and deeper layers of the scalp. This treatment features 272 diodes at 650 nm and 40 diodes at 808 nm, facilitating improved circulation and boosted cellular activity. It also targets cells and follicles deep within the dermis. (2)

Platelet-Rich Plasma

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrated solution of platelets derived from a sample of your own blood. This treatment separates the red blood cells from the plasma in your blood, with the resulting serum containing numerous growth factors, proteins, and other regenerative properties. When PRP is administered to the scalp, it can help promote angiogenesis, enhance wound and soft tissue healing, as well as regulate cell proliferation. (3)

During your treatment, your specialist will collect a small sample of your blood, similar to a regular doctor’s appointment. This sample will then be processed to separate the plasma from other cellular components. The resulting solution will be injected into areas around the scalp experiencing thinning, shedding, or patchiness.

Hair Loss Medications

If necessary, your specialist can also prescribe either finasteride or minoxidil to enhance the effects of your hair loss treatment. Both of these are FDA-approved hair restoration medications that can be used to enhance growth and slow hair loss. They can be applied topically or taken orally. (4,5)

Clinical Trials

We pride ourselves on innovation, and regularly hold clinical trials to experiment and advance our knowledge. Dr. Paul Yamauchi serves as the principal investigator leading our clinical trials, which are administered through the Institute of Clinical Research and Consulting (ICRC) and the Clinical Science Institute. Under his expert guidance, these studies explore cutting-edge therapies and treatments aimed at advancing dermatological care. These are research studies that test the efficacy of new medications, medical devices, or medical procedures, before they are made publicly available.

Currently, we have two active clinical trials focused specifically on hair loss. In addition, we have 8 to 10 other enrolling clinical trials addressing a variety of other conditions. If you are interested in helping our team establish new solutions for your skin, we encourage you to either contact us or fill in our research form to learn more about what our trials entail. Each participant will receive compensation for their treatment.
