Skin Care Awareness Month
September is Skin Care Awareness Month! In keeping with our philosophy of patient education and treatment advancements, we are taking this month to highlight things patients can do to optimize their skin health—not just for immediate aesthetic enhancements, but for long-term prejuvenation. Every month at DISCC is Skin Care Awareness Month!
About Sutani Skin Care
The skin is the body’s largest organ—every day, it is exposed to external factors that can impact its health and appearance, one of the most damaging culprits being the sun’s harmful UV rays. (1) Our products aim to support and nourish your skin, not only protecting it from the sun but also allowing you to maintain a youthful and radiant complexion long-term.
With Sutani, we can help you improve your skin’s appearance, health, texture, and more.
Available Products
We offer several different products as part of Sutani Skin Care. Each product has a different use and purpose, but they are all beneficial for your skin nonetheless. A comprehensive skin care regimen often consists of a cleanser, toner, moisturizer, scrub, serum, and sunscreen, but your routine may vary depending on your skin type and concerns.
Cleansers
Cleansing your skin is the first step in any routine. It consists of clearing away any dirt, oils, and other impurities on the skin’s surface. Cleansing the skin is also crucial for preventing acne flare-ups, as well as managing chronic skin conditions. (2)
Toners
Toning the skin occurs after cleansing, and these products perform several functions all at once. Toners can improve your skin’s hydration, rebalance its pH, and even act as a primer for the following products in your routine. Certain toners may contain additional ingredients to provide further benefits, such as brightening effects or deeper hydration.
Serums
Serums are a lightweight product that target specific concerns. Different serums have different active ingredients included to provide certain effects, such as brightening agents, anti-aging benefits, improved hydration, and more. (3)
Moisturizers
Moisturizers are an essential part of any skincare routine, as they replenish the skin’s water content and restore its protective barrier function. The ingredients in moisturizers reduce effects such as flaking, peeling, acne, and itching. Moisturizers typically fall into categories based on their ingredients and purpose, including:
- Occlusive Moisturizers: Occlusive moisturizers form a barrier over the skin to prevent evaporation.
- Humectant Moisturizers: Humectants draw water into the skin to increase its water content. (4)
Scrubs
Scrubs, also known as exfoliants, are products that remove dead and damaged skin cells from the skin’s surface. Scrubs may either be chemically formulated to dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells or contain granules that can physically scrub the skin’s surface. This step is only necessary a few times a week, as it can damage the skin if performed too often.
Sunblock and Sunscreen
Sunblocks and sunscreens are crucial for preventing sun damage and skin cancers caused by ultraviolet (UV) exposure. UV exposure can cause signs of premature aging to develop, including wrinkles, creases, and fine lines. In addition to this, UV radiation can also cause sunburns, cancerous lesions, and immunosuppression, contributing to the likelihood of cancer. There are two main types of sunscreens, including:
- Physical Sunscreens: Physical sunscreens physically block UV radiation. These products typically leave a white sheen, but begin working immediately.
- Chemical Sunscreens: Chemical sunscreens absorb light using organic and chemical compounds. These products are known to be more lightweight, but they may irritate more sensitive skin. (5)
Benefits of a Great Skincare Routine
When using Sutani products, many of our patients experience benefits such as:
- Improved Hydration: Several of our products replenish the skin’s water content, restoring a plumper appearance and promoting its natural barrier function.
- Smoother-Feeling Skin: Chemical and physical scrubs can soften and reduce rough or raised patches of skin. These products may also clear away dead skin cells, revealing brighter and fresher skin beneath them.
- Softened Signs of Aging: Certain products, such as chemical peels or retinoids, can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, creases, and fine lines.
- Reduced Acne Flare-Ups: Maintaining a skincare regimen can prevent acne breakouts or flare-ups, allowing you to preserve the long-term health and clarity of your skin.
- Glowing Complexion: Each product contains active ingredients and essential vitamins to nourish your skin.
- Precise Targeting: Certain products contain ingredients to address specific concerns, such as a dull complexion or hyperpigmentation. This allows you to tailor your skincare regimen around your personal and aesthetic goals.
- Enhanced Self-Esteem: After seeing their refined appearance, many patients report feeling more confident in themselves.
