About CoolPeel

CoolPeel features a CO2 laser, which emits short pulses of energy to effectively restore more radiant and smoother-looking skin. As the treatment area absorbs this energy and converts it into heat, the process stimulates the production of new collagen. (1) Because these short pulses minimize damage and preserve the surrounding tissue, patients typically experience a faster recovery compared to other laser options. (2)

Benefits

CoolPeel offers several benefits, including:

  • Smoother Skin: CoolPeel promotes skin resurfacing for a softer, more even texture.
  • Stimulated Collagen Production: This treatment stimulates the production of collagen in the targeted areas, allowing you to achieve firmer, more even, and more elastic skin.
  • Softened Signs of Aging: This treatment can help you attain a more youthful-looking appearance by reducing the appearance of wrinkles, creases, and fine lines.
  • Year-Round Use: Unlike other types of laser treatments, our dermatology team can perform CoolPeel year-round, even when the sun is at its most intense.
  • Wide Application: CoolPeel can address numerous concerns and conditions, ranging from wrinkles to irregular pigmentation.
  • No Downtime: You can return to your daily activities immediately after your treatment session.
  • High Safety Profile: CoolPeel is non-invasive and safe for all skin types.

Candidates

You may want to consider CoolPeel if you struggle with any of the following concerns:

  • Wrinkles
  • Creases
  • Fine Lines
  • Sun Damage
  • Pigmentation Irregularities
  • Uneven Texture
  • Uneven Tone (2)

All candidates must be in good general health and hold realistic expectations regarding what this treatment can accomplish.

We do not recommend CoolPeel for anyone who has an active infection or acne breakout in the treatment area. CoolPeel should also be avoided by individuals who have used isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last 6 to 12 months. (2)

Personal Consultation

The first step to transforming your skin is attending a personal consultation at our Santa Monica office, where your dermatologist will meet with you individually. They will review your medical history, discuss your desired results, and assess your areas of concern. They will then use this information to finalize your candidacy and create a personalized solution to address your skin concerns.

If you are ready to schedule a consultation, please contact us online or call (310) 829-4104.

Preparation

Once you decide to proceed with your CoolPeel treatment, you will need to make certain preparations to ensure your skin is ready. Guidelines include:

  • Altering Your Routine: Refrain from using any harsh or abrasive skin products in the days leading up to your appointment.
  • Avoiding Certain Medications: Avoid blood-thinning medications or supplements.
  • Protect Your Skin: Use gentle moisturizers and plenty of sunscreen to protect your skin.
  • Stop Tanning: Do not use tanning beds or products, and limit any sun exposure.
  • Arrive Prepared: Show up to your appointment with clean skin, free of makeup or skin care products.

Procedure

Our dermatology team performs each CoolPeel treatment in our office on an outpatient basis. Treatment sessions typically last 30 minutes or less. Your dermatologist will begin by cleansing your skin to remove oils and debris. CoolPeel does not require general anesthesia or sedation, and topical numbing is optional.

You will wear protective eyewear as your dermatologist passes the CoolPeel device across the treatment areas. As the device emits the laser energy, it will create microscopic columns in the treatment zone to stimulate your body’s regenerative processes. Your dermatologist will continue maneuvering the device until they have addressed the treatment areas evenly. They will then apply a serum or ointment to hydrate and soothe your skin.

Recovery

One of the primary benefits of CoolPeel is the lack of downtime! You can return to your routine immediately after treatment. However, you may experience some redness and peeling for the first several days after your appointment. This is a normal part of the skin’s renewal process, and you should avoid picking or scratching. Refrain from using any makeup or harsh skincare products for the first 24 to 48 hours. Additionally, you should protect your skin by avoiding direct or prolonged sun exposure and applying appropriate sun protection whenever you go outdoors. Your dermatologist will provide you with detailed after-care instructions and be available to answer any questions that may arise.

Results

You may notice initial improvements in your skin’s appearance and texture soon after your appointment, but it can take several weeks for your collagen levels to rise and for your final results to develop. Once they do, you may enjoy smoother, tighter, and more evenly-toned skin. While a single treatment session can provide significant improvements, we recommend committing to a series of treatments for optimal results.

Corresponding Procedures

Our team of dermatologists can perform several treatments alongside CoolPeel to provide further rejuvenating benefits. Two popular treatments include chemical peels and intense pulsed light (IPL), but we can offer personalized suggestions during your consultation.

Chemical Peels

Chemical solutions are applied to exfoliate the outermost layers of the skin and address concerns such as discoloration, early signs of aging, uneven texture, sun damage, and more. (3) We offer three different strengths of chemical peel (light, medium, and deep) to address varying skin concerns.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy is a non-laser skin treatment that uses short pulses of intense light to refresh the appearance of your skin. Our dermatology team can perform IPL to reduce the appearance of various skin conditions such as leg veins, acne, rosacea, and more. (4)
